Takiwasi Center
Center for the Rehabilitation of Drug Addicts and the Investigation of Traditional Medicine
Takiwasi is a Center for the Rehabilitation of Drug Addicts and For Research on Traditional Medicines, created as result of six years of research work in the Peruvian Upper Amazon (Department of San Martin), the world’s largest coca leaf producing zone.
Receiving outside researchers for short periods of study, the center made researches on traditional medicine’s contribution to the treatment of addicted individuals. Its therapeutical team consists of doctors, psychologists, empirical ethno botanist, healers and several assistant therapists.
The Takiwasi Center is located in the outskirts of the Tarapoto city (population 80,000), in the Peruvian Upper Amazon area, 800 kms. Northeast of Lima.
