Types of drug treatment
The different types of drug treatment depend upon the degree of dependence, the patient's social situation and the type of drug the person is addicted to. In any situation, these programs go through similar stages, beginning with detoxification, going through therapy and ending in integration back to a normal way of life. Some rehabilitation treatments have medical components, under the supervision of a head doctor, in order to ease the symptoms of withdrawal, intensive counseling and methods that address to the underlying causes of the addiction. Often, every type of drug rehab starts in a medical facility, in order for the health professionals to oversee the chemical detoxification. The patient, at the end of the rehab, will no longer be physically drug dependent and medical personnel must monitor the process through which drugs chemically leave the system.
Among the wide variety of drug treatments based on a medical component or psychologically-formed therapies there are: Agonist Maintenance Drug Treatment Narcotic Antagonist Drug TreatmentOutpatient Drug-Free Treatment Long-Term Residential Drug Treatment Short-Term Residential Drug Treatment Prison-Based Drug Treatment Community-Based Drug Treatment
